PacBio's Sequel IIe in Ukraine: a new standard of accuracy in medical genomics

Kyiv Centre of Nephrology and Dialysis is the first to introduce HiFi sequencing for HLA typing

PacBio's Sequel IIe in Ukraine: a new standard of accuracy in medical genomics - Empirica

One of the most advanced sequencers in the world, Sequel IIe from Pacific Biosciences (PacBio), has been launched at the Kyiv Centre for Nephrology and Dialysis. This innovative platform uses HiFi (High-Fidelity) sequencing technology, which provides ultra-long reads (up to 30,000 base pairs) with exceptional accuracy of over 99.9%.

One of the main applications of Sequel IIe at the Centre is HLA typing, a critical procedure for selecting compatible donors for organ and bone marrow transplants. HiFi sequencing makes it possible to read HLA genes completely and directly, including the most difficult regions, without the need for complex assembly or multi-step procedures.

Benefits of implementing Sequel IIe:

  • Increased accuracy of HLA typing to the 4th and even 6th level
  • Reduced risk of immunological incompatibility
  • Reduced analysis time - important in critical clinical situations

This is the first time in Ukraine that a medical institution has integrated this technology into clinical practice. The introduction of Sequel IIe was an important step towards a new level of personalised medicine.

Installation and commissioning of the instrument were carried out by our team — leading specialists of global brands in the field of molecular diagnostics.

Advanced genomic technologies are now available for diagnostic applications in Ukraine.
